And the European Capital of Culture for 2020 is...Rijeka! Last night in the Mimara Museum in Zagreb a committee of independent experts decided that Rijeka will be the European Capital of Culture for 2020.
Dubrovnik was in the running to be the European Capital of Culture, in fact there were four Croatian cities with Pula and Osijek on the short list, but there hopes and dreams were dashed last night as Rijeka won the vote.
Each city made a 45-minute presentation before the commission after which members of the committee asked questions of the city representatives. The committee was formed of experts from four European institutions and two national institutions, and the president was Steve Green from the European Commission.
